On May 26, 2008, a regular session of the RANS branch «Information and Telecommunications Technologies» was held at which the results of the branch activity in the first half of the year were summarized.  Valery O. Tikhvinskiy, Chairman of the RANS ITT branch, delivered an activity report; Valery V. Frontov, Vice-Chairman, informed the RANS ITT members about the work plan and workshops scheduled for 2008; Sergey V. Terentyev,  Academic Secretary of the RANS ITT,  reported on the state and features of the RANS ITT web-site (www.raenitt.ru) and on the program of international conference “ Mobile and wireless business: Adaptation and standardization of new technologies” which will be held in association with ETSI and “T-Comm. Telecommunications and Transport” magazine ( October, 2008, Juan-les-Pins, France).  The session also dealt with organizational, financial and RANS ITT membership issues.

Principal directions of the RANS ITT activity for the year 2008 were adopted:

• Research work  within the RANS ITT work groups competence;
• Expert activity related to vital aspects of introduction of advanced information and telecommunications technologies;
• International activity in technical committees and work groups of ITU (ITU Council, ITU-R WP 5D), СЕРТ, ETSI(BRAN,TISPAN,STQ,ERM), WiMAX Forum and other forms of international scientific cooperation;
• Scientific personnel training (thesis work examination and  reviewing, critique and academic advising for scientific degree seekers);
• Workshops and international conferences;
• Publications of most important research findings.

 The RANS ITT activity in the first half of the year was approved. It includes:

• Completion of the RANS ITT incorporation and receipt of the main state registration number from registration authorities;
• Forming of working groups and RANS ITT executive body;
•  Completion of registration procedure and entry into ETSI;
• Conducted negotiations with the Consul of France on simplification of entry into Schengen countries for RANS ITT members;
• Participation in 4 international conferences («IMS Russia 2007», «InterCom 2007», «FMC-2008», «Wireless Broadband - 2008»), 2 All-Russian conferences («Legal Support of Telecommunication Business 2008», « Enhancing National Radiofrequency Resource Use Efficiency. Topical Issues ») and 2 ETSI meetings.
• Publication of 5 articles (T-Сomm, Mobile Systems and Mobile Telecommunications journals)
