On September 15-19, 2008, the 29th meeting of STQ Technical Committee («Quality of service of voice and data communication») of ETSI was held in Fornebu, a suburb of Oslo (Norway). The main topic was: standardization of quality of service in NGN, IP and mobile communication networks.
About 20 delegates from 12 countries attended the ÅÒSI STQ#29. They represented ETSI Secretariat, major manufacturers of equipment (Alcatel-Lucent), National Communications Administrations (Norwegian post and telecommunications Authority (Post-og teletilsynet), Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio -Secretariata de Estado de Telecommunicaciones), European operators (Telenor ASA, Swisscom AG, Vodafon D2, France Telecom, etc.) and research centers (PQM Consulting, University of Zilina, FOKUS- Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems, RANS ITT Branch, MESAQIN, Teolys, Head Acustics GmBH).
More than 45 documents related to prospects of development of ETSI radio and telecommunication technologies, principal directions of STQ/ETSI activity, standardization and elaboration of main metrics for evaluation of voice and video quality, audio-visual service quality, and acoustic properties of UMTS terminals in the framework of Release 7 and 8were examined at the meeting. During the session two special STF work groups were set up to deal with issues of voice quality in mobile terminals and quality of triple-play services.
