The 30th Meeting of the ETSI STQ Technical Committee and 21st Meeting of the STQ Mobile Working Group were held on December 1-4, 2008, in Bled (Slovenia). The Meetingsdealt withQoS standardization in NGN, IP and mobile networks.ETSI STQ#30 Meeting was attended by 16 delegates from 9 countries; they represented ETSI Secretariat, leading manufacturers of equipment (Alcatel-Lucent, Iskratel), national Administrations of communications (Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (Post-og teletilsynet), European operators (Telenor ASA, Swisscom AG, Vodafon D2, France Telecom, Orange, Telekom Austria, etc.) and research centers (PQM Consulting, University of Zilina, FOKUS- Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems, RANS Branch “Information and Telecommunications Technologies”, Head Acustics GmBH).
STQ Technical Committee studied more than 30 papers in two directions – end-user QoS and quality of multimedia service in NGN networks including: parameters of audiovisual QoS under communication over IP networks, proposals for wireless terminals, QoS measurement methods and NGN network performance metrics, and QoS applications in NGN network architecture.
ETSI STQ Mobile #21 Meeting was attended by 14 delegates from 8 countries (Austria, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, Russia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland); they represented ETSI Secretariat, leading manufacturers of equipment (Telefon AB LM Ericsson), European operators (Telenor ASA, Telecom Austria TA AG, Vodafon D2, T-Mobile Czech Republic, etc.) and research centers (SwissQual, P3 Solutions, RANS Branch “Information and Telecommunications Technologies”).
More than 25 documents related to the principal directions of STQ Mobile/ETSI activity were discussed at the meeting, among them: elaboration of Part 7 “QoS Measurements in Networks” (ETSI TS 102250 QoS aspects for popular services in GSM and 3G networks and ETSI TR 102529 Methodologies and aspects of quality for SMS service testing), QoS parameters for TETRA services, multi-component KPI for the service of end-user access to FTP and HTTP, diversification of ETSI STQ activity and title change for “Speech and Multimedia Transmission Quality”, voice/speech terminology, etc. (www.etsi.org).
