XXV international conference “Mobile and Wireless Business: technology and services evolution”

XXV international conference “Mobile and Wireless Business: technology and services evolution” took place in Montegrotto (Italy) in Congress Centre Augustus Terme Hotel. The conference was organized by regional subsidiary of RANS Information and telecommunication technologies with participation of European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), association of regional mobile operators ‘Modern Telecommunication’. Numerous delegates from six countries (Russia, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Belorussia, and Kazakhstan) contributed to the content of the conference.

This conference is anniversary international assembly with visiting experts from significant international mobile and wireless providers as well as institutes and associations like European Telecommunication Standards Institute, Association of Regional Mobile Operators, Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics, mobile operators (Telecom Italia, Prestige, KCell), consulting companies (Detecon, ‘Modern Technologies’).

Within two sessions several current topics were discussed:

  • Evolutionary development of connectivity technologies;
  • Usage of radiofrequency spectrum for LTE/UMTS/WiMAX networks  Architecture change of NGN/UMTS/WiMAX networks in the course of convergence;
  • MVNO introduction under the condition of technological competition;
  • Introduction of digital broadcast technologies in WiMAX/DVB-H,-T Networks;
  • Regulation of services quality requirements.

The conference was opened up by president of European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Dr. Michael Sharpe and Chairman of Information and Telecommunication technology RINS – Dr, Tihvinsky V.O.

Dr Michael Sharpe (UK) reported on evolutionary development of communication technology and the on role of ETSI in the global connectivity standardization. Dr. Tihvinsky reported on introduction of innovative technologies and services in Russia.

In the course of plenary following speakers made presentations:

  • Dr. Julius Golovatchev (RANS member and head of Competence Team Product Lifecycle Management) from Detecon International (Germany) reported on strategic approach of innovation management and introduction of effective products and services on the telecommunication market.
  • Bolat Nurgozhin (representative of KCell (Kazakhstan)) reported on economic and legal issues of Kazakh info communication market under the condition of competitiveness and convergence of technologies, networks and services.
  • V.N. Dmitriev (general director of ST corp (Belorussie)) reported on market analysis of mobile network market in Belorussia.
  • B. J. Arhipkin (general director of ‘Kedakh Electronics Engineering’ (Belorussia) reported on technology introduction and new way of multiple services implementation.
  • Mariano Guinta (representative from TILAB – LAB EMC, Telecom Italia) reported on chances of PLT technology for home networks.
  • P.S. Dobrina (board chairman of ‘Modern Communication’ (Russia) reported on innovation management on the telco market.

At the round table the discussion on evolution of technologies and services on European, Russian and CIS markets (Vice President ETSI, Dr. Michael Sharpe, Dr. Tihvinsky as a RAEN representative, P.S. Dobrina, board chairman of ‘Modern Communication’). Following important trends were identified and stressed:

  1. Convergence of information and telecommunication technologies;
  2. eHealth;
  3. Intelligent Transport Systems;
  4. Reconfigurable Radio Systems;
  5. IMS Networks;
  6. Quantum Key Distribution;
  7. Machine to Machine Services;
  8. Media Content Distribution;
  9. Autonomic network engineering for the self-managing Future Internet (AFI);
  10. Mobile Thin Client;
  11. Identity and access management for Networks and Services;
  12. Measurement Ontology for IP traffic.

Following conferences are planned:

  • In December 2009 in Moscow, Russia: Conference on ‘introduction and development of IMS platform for development of NGN networks an UMTS/LTE in Russia’.
  • In April 2010 in Vancouver, Canada: XXVI RANS International round table meeting.
