General Assembly of The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) 2009

24th – 25th November, 2009 the General Assembly of The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) took place in Cannes, France (location : Hotel Martinez) . Round 180 delegates from 40 European Countries participated in the conference representing ETSI, ERO, ITU, CELENEC secretariats, Network Administration from 18 European Countries, major manufacturers (Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks GmbH & Co. KG, Intel Corporation (UK) Ltd, Hewlett-Packard, Panasonic, Samsung, Huawei, QUALCOMM UK Ltd, Sony UK Limited, MOTOROLA Ltd, Cisco Systems Belgium), Operator and Manufacturers Association (GSMA, UMTS Forum, TETRA Association, Association of Service Providers, National Information Communications & Consumer Electronics Technology Industry Association, Association Européenne de Radiocommunications, Low Power Radio Association (LPRA)) as well as European Operators (Orange, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica, France Telecom, TELECOM ITALIA S.p.A , MOBITEL d.d.etc.).

54th General Assembly of ETSI was devoted to ETSI strategy considerations for 2010, budgetary and business plan approval. Furthermore the considerations of the technology development plans IMT Advanced in the ITU, reports review of the regional standardization bodies ARIB, IEEE, Association of operators and manufacturers TETRA, OMA, NGMN and IPTV Forum were made. Additionally the adoption of new ETSI members were presented (Russian “NPF Geizer” was adopted from Russian Federation).

The main strategic milestones for ETSI in 2010 are:

  • Ensure the cooperation between web 2.0 platforms and IMS;
  • Involvement in the debates on the European standardization;
  • Clustering of technological activity;
  • Expansion of the pre-standardization groups;
  • Involvement of small businesses in the activities of ETSI;
  • Cooperation with countries in the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China).

At the meeting more than 45 documents (http://portal.etsi.org/docbox/ga) were discussed that summarized the results of the ETSI’s 2009 activity as well as clarified plans for 2010. Members of the department "Information and telecommunication technologies" of RANS attended the 54th General Assembly of ETSI.
