The 26th ETSI Technical Committee M2M (Technology of Machine-to-Machine communication) meeting

On June 25-28, 2013, the 26th ETSI Technical Committee M2M (Technology of Machine-to-Machine communication) meeting took place in Sofia-Antipolis (France). Thirty delegates from more than 15 countries, representatives of the Secretariat of ETSI and national authorities of the standardization, producers of the equipment (Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Huawei, ZTE, QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent, MOTOROLA Mobility Ltd, CISCO, Intel Corporation(UK), NEC, LG Electronics Mobilecomm, Fujitsu Laboratories, etc.), also communication operators (SPRINT, Verizon, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica, France Telecom, KDDI, TELECOM ITALIA S.p.A, Vodafon Int. Modacom, etc.) took part in work of the 26th meeting of ETSI Technical Committee. The virtual presence principle based on web connections and translation of conference calls was tested for the first time.
The 26th meeting was devoted to consideration of results of activity since the previous 25th meeting (April 2013, Sofia-Antipolis) of the following working groups:
- WG1 (Requirement to services and M2M use),
- WG2 (Functional architecture of M2M networks),
- WG3 (Network M2M protocols),
- WG4 (Safety of M2M networks),
- WG5 (Management of M2M networks).
Transformation of responsibility of Technical Committee M2M ETSI in relation to working groups of the partner project oneM2M became the main issue of the 26th meeting of Technical Committee M2M/ETSI.
A great work concerning improvement of functional architecture of M2M networks for Releases 1 and 2, as well as additions for the following technical ETSI specifications was done:
- TS 102 689 - Machine-to-Machine communications (M2M); M2M service requirements;
- TS 102 690 - Machine-to-Machine communications (M2M); Functional architecture;
- TS 102 921 - Machine-to-Machine communications (M2M); mIa, dIa and mId interfaces;
- TS 103 092 - Machine-to-Machine communications (M2M); OMA DM compatible Management Objects for ETSI M2M.
Offers on introduction of additions and changes in the following technical reports of ETSI, concerning business models of M2M service and infrastructure improvement of networks were considered:
- TR 102 725 – Definitions;
- TR 102 732 – Use Cases of M2M applications for eHealth;
- TR 102 857 - Use Cases of M2M applications for Connected Consumer;
- TR 102 897 - Use Cases of M2M applications for City Automation;
- TR 102 898 - Use Cases of automotive applications;
- TR 103 167 – Threat analysis and counter measures to M2M service layer;
- TR 101 531 – Reuse of Core Network Functionality by M2M Service Capabilities;
- TR 101 966 – Architecture of M2M network and local M2M networks with Area Network technology gateway interaction;
- TR 101 584 – Machine-to-Machine communications (M2M) Study on Semantic support for M2M Data);
- TR 102 935 – Impact of Smart Grids on M2M platform;
- TR 103 118 - Extension and harmonization of Smart Energy Security Solutions;
- DTR/M2M-0022ed111 – Impact of Smart City activity on IoT Environment.
Final versions of additions and changes in the following technical reports and ETSI standards, concerning business cases of M2M service and architecture improvement and M2M services were approved:
- (TS 102 689) RTS/M2M-00001ed211 - M2M service requirements;
- (TR 102 857) DTR/M2M-00006 - M2M Use Case - Connected Consumer;
- (TR 102 732) DTR/M2M-00005 - M2M Use Case – eHealth;
- (TS 102 690) RTS/M2M-00002ed211- M2M functional architecture.
Carrying out the following 27th meeting of Technical Committee M2M is planned for the period 15-19 September 2013 in ETSI headquarters in Sofia - Antipolis (France).
