62nd General Assembly of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)

On November 19-20, 2013, the 62nd General Assembly of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) was held in Mondele (France) in Pullman Royal Casino congress center.

About 150 delegates from more than 40 Europe countries, as well as representatives of the ETSI Secretariat, the European Commission, ITU, CELENEC, Communications Administrations of 18 European countries and Georgia , the largest mobile equipment producers  (Apple, Ericsson, Nokia Solutions and Networks, NEC Europe, Nokia Corp., IBM Europe, Intel Mobile Communications, Hewlett-Packard, MICROSOFT Europe, Panasonic, Sony Europe Limited, Samsung R & D Institute, Huawei, QUALCOMM UK Ltd, LG, Gigaset, TEXAS Instruments, Cisco Systems, ZTE), associations of mobile operators and producers (GSMA, EFTA, TTA, China Communications Standards Association, OMA, OIPF, IPv6 Forum, NGMN, EMSA) and European telecommunications operators (BT Groupe, Orange, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica, France Telecom, Telia Sonera AB, TELECOM ITALIA SpA, PORUGAL TELECOM , etc.) took part in the work of the 62nd General Assembly of ETSI.

The 62nd ETSI General Assembly was devoted to the deliberation of ETSI Strategy for 2014; the approval of the budget and the work plan of the ETSI Secretariat in 2014; the consideration of the ETSI Finance Committee report (2013) and the approval of members.

The main points of ETSI strategy are as follows:

  • Smart Cities;
  • Smart Appliances;
  • “Smart Security Platform” incl. Mobile Payments;
  • Cyber Security/ Network Information Security;
  • E-Health;
  • Efficiency and Green Agenda;
  • ETSI in the European standardization landscape;
  • ETSI attractiveness for new innovative work and Horizon 2020;
  • Partnership processes and policies, incl. PAS;
  • Partnership agreements on strategic ICT issues;
  • Better use of ETSI membership mix to address cross-sector topics.

Cooperation agreements between ETSI and following international associations were approved:

  • ICT Standards Advisory Council of Canada (ISACC);
  • Open IPTV Forum (OIPF);
  • ULE Alliance;
  •  IPv6 Forum;
  • Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI);
  •  Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services (RTCM);
  •  Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance;
  • European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).

Representative of the «Information and Telecommunications Technologies» Branch of RAEN Dr. Valery Tikhvinskiy (Chairman of ITT RAEN) took part in the work of the 62nd General Assembly of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) as head of the national delegation of ETSI Russian members.
